Welcome to this week’s Nurturing Nook Notes! This time, I’m sharing some tips on camping adventures, fun family dancing, and a book that’s all about the power of play. Ready? Let’s get started!

Camping

I’ll be the first to admit that we’re no camping experts. It was never a passion. But kids love it so much that every school holiday, there’s no way out. At least a couple of nights have to happen, especially if some family friends are also going.

Sure, camping isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But for those on the fence, it’s a fantastic way to bond with the kids and see them free ranging, nurturing their curiosity, and exploring nature and new things.

I see it as a stress relief, even considering the effort involved – the packing, the setting up, the post-trip cleanup. Hard work for sure, but the upside is very rewarding.

Giggle Trigger Happy

That’s what happens when I put in my best opera and dance performance, making my one and only interpretation of:

Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody

To my kiddos, it’s fondly known as the ‘Mama Mia’ song – the song’s name is a bit of a tongue twister for them (and let’s be honest, for me too!). This fun, high-energy ‘show’ not only introduces them to some classic rock but also serves as a fantastic outlet to release some energy with silly dance and jump moves.

So, are you ready to start your own family silly dance session? Pick any song that suits your family and do an outlandish goofy performance. You’ll be surprised at the memories you’ll make!

Book recommendation

When people I respect suggest a book, I’m all ears. This week’s recommendation falls right into that category.

This week’s recommendation:

Playful Parenting, by Lawrence J. Cohen

It’s a must-read for anyone looking to engage deeper with their kids through the universal language of play. The core message is simple yet profound: to truly connect with our little ones, play with them!

That’s all for this week’s Nurturing Nook Notes! Remember, it’s the simple, playful, and even silly times that stick.

Until next time, keep embracing the laughs, love, and beautiful chaos that come with raising our little ones!

Take care,

– Alex
